Course Description
This yearlong course is the second course in the Project Lead the Way high school pre-engineering program. The course introduces students to some of the major concepts that they will encounter in a postsecondary engineering course of study. Students have an opportunity to investigate engineering design challenges through activity- and project-based learning. While working in teams, students continually hone their interpersonal skills, creative abilities, and problem solving skills as they apply engineering concepts. Students will also learn how to document their work and communicate their solutions to their peers and members of the professional community. The course of study includes mechanisms (simple machines), energy sources, machine control, statics, material properties, and kinematics. At the honors level, there will be additional readings and book reports assigned to encourage a greater understanding of engineering as a profession. Topics will include the design successes and failures of various everyday products. A higher level of design success will be required for the assigned design challenges as well. |
Prerequisites
College Prep Introduction to Engineering Design. |
